Box Score OWENSBORO – The Kentucky State volleyball team saw its three game winning streak snapped in a 3-1 loss at Kentucky Wesleyan on Wednesday.
The Thorobrettes dropped the first two sets 25-23 and 25-16 before coming back with a 25-18 win in the third set. However, Kentucky Wesleyan closed out the match with a 25-17 win in the fourth set.
In a back-and-forth first set, the teams found themselves even at 23 before Kentucky Wesleyan took the final two points. In the second set, the Panthers gradually pulled away for a 25-16 victory. In the third set, it was the Thorobrettes pulling ahead with two separate 4-0 runs, turning a 9-9 tie into a 22-16 advantage. Kentucky Wesleyan again pulled away gradually in the final set, using a 4-0 run to jump to a 13-8 lead and holding on from that point.
For the Thorobrettes,
Tahje Ochs had a team-high nine kills, while
Micah Rogers had eight kills and led the team with 11 digs.
Payton Richardson had seven kills,
Anjelique Kyle picked up 28 assists, and
Kiara Rivera had three aces with eight digs.
Kentucky State drops to 18-8 with the loss, while Kentucky Wesleyan moves to 4-15 on the season. The Thorobrettes return to action with a trip to the University of the Cumberlands on Tuesday.
