Thorobreds Finish 2013 Season With Blowout Victory Over Morehouse, 44-0

Box Score

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Junior running back Jacquise Lockett eclipsed the 1000 season rushing yards mark for Kentucky State University as the Thorobreds defeated the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers, 44-0, in a non-conference football game on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

Lockett took a handoff from Adam Robinson on the second play of the game and gained 6-yards, pushing his season total to 1,003 rushing yards. Lockett finished the game with 98 total rushing yards which gives him a total of 1,095 rushing yards in the 2013 season.

The last time that a KSU player rushed for over 1000 yards was the 2009 season. That season both Anthony Boykins (1,031) and Shannon Frieson (1,011) eclipsed the 1000 yard mark. Lockett's 1,095 yards are the most in a single season by a KSU player since Alvon Brown rushed for 1,536 yards in 2000.

The Thorobreds overwhelmed the Maroon Tigers offensively tallying 478 total offensive yards and 22 first downs to just 168 total yards and 6 first downs for Morehouse.

Adam Robinson was an offensive force against Morehouse. Robinson finished the game with 323 passing yards and five touchdowns while completing 18-of-26 passing attempts.

Sophomore receiver Derek Woodmore was on the revieving end of many of those Robinson offerings. Woodmore had a game high 161 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Senior defensive end Frank Rogers had arguably the best game of his career on Saturday. Rogers finished the game with a game high two sacks including a sack in the third quarter that caused Morehouse quarterback Joshua Harris to fumble the ball. Kentucky State recovered the ball on the Morehouse 7-yard line. The sack set up a 7-yard touchdown pass from Adam Robinson to running back Justin Williams on the very next play.

Lydell Simon led the Thorobreds with nine total tackles while also picking up a sack.

Freshman linebacker Travon Spencer and junior defensive back Terrell Johnson both picked up their first interceptions of the season. Spencer returned his 46-yards for a touchdown in the second quarter of the game.

Junior kicker Cade Berryman finished the season a perfect 34-for-34 on extra point attempts.

Kentucky State honored its 21 seniors on Saturday with a pre-game ceremony.

The Thorobreds finish the 2013 campaign with a 5-5 overall record and a 1-4 record in SIAC action. Morehouse finishes the season at 2-8 overall, 0-4 in SIAC play.
