Terry Horton Snatches SIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award

Box Score Atlanta, GA—The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Football Players of the Week for the fifth week of the 2012 season.

Offensive Player of the Week
Tuskegee senior running back Derrick Washington was named the Offensive Player of the Week. The 6-foot 215-pound running back from Raymore, Missouri rushed for 218 yards and had two rushing touchdowns on 17 carries in the Golden Tigers 49-18 victory over Fort Valley. Averaging 12.8 yards per carry, Washington, a transfer from Missouri, had touchdown runs of 57 and 44 yards, and also a 28-yard touchdown pass to teammate Kaleep Williams.

Defensive Player of the Week
Stillman College defensive back Carlos Wilson had two interceptions in the Tigers 32-22 victory over Lane and was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Week. The 5-10 175 pound cover-corner returned one interceptions 20-yards in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for Stillman. He also had five tackles in the game.

Kentucky State linebacker Terry Horton was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Week after his game-high 17 tackles in the 2012 Chicago Classic Game against Albany State. The 5-11 240-pound inside backer also had two tackles for losses and one sack. He was named the Chicago Classic 2012 Defensive MVP.

Newcomer of the Week
SIAC Newcomer of the Week was awarded to Derrick Washington of Tuskegee.

Lineman of the Week
Tuskegee offensive lineman Matthew Reese was named Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week. Reese, a 6-foot-3 310 pound sophomore from Birmingham, Alabama anchored Tuskegee's offensive line plowed its way to 671 yards of total offense.

Shea Martin of Morehouse is the Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week. Martin was the catalyst of the Maroon Tigers offensive line that help the offense amass 369 yards and three successful scoring opportunities in the red zone. The 6-foot-5 270 pound lineman also recorded four pancake blocks.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Miles College kicker Patton Chambers went 6-for-6 on PAT's, and 2-for-2 on field goals in the Golden Bears 50-7 win over Benedict. The junior from Gadsden, AL efforts earned him the Special Teams Player of the Week Honor. Chambers hit field goals from 26 and 24 yards.

Duke Coleman – Lane                                    (So-WR, -Memphis, TN)
Coleman hauled in 5 passes for 109 yards including a 63 Yard TD reception on a deflected pass.

Nathan Hoyte - Albany State  (Sr-RB-Waldorf, MD)
The senior was named Offensive Player of the Game after his performance against Kentucky State in the Chicago Football Classic. Hoyte scored ASU's first points on an 8-yard rush. He rushed for 95 yards on 28 carries, with a long rush of 12 yards. He averaged 3.4 yards per rush.

Devonta Parker-Johnson - Miles          (So-RB-Millry, AL)
The sophomore rushed 11 times for 74 yards and three touchdowns in Miles 50-7 win over Benedict.

Charles King - Clark Atlanta   (Jr-QB- Norcross, GA)
The junior signal-caller recorded 220 passing yards and one touchdown pass. He also finished with 23 completions on 48 attempts.

Eric McCree - Fort Valley State                (Sr-WR-Hollywood, FL)
The senior had a game-high 7 receptions for 93 yards and one touchdown.

Donnay Ragland – Morehouse               (Jr-QB-Compton, CA)
The junior rushed for 131 yards, and connected on 14-of-22 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown. In the 34-16 victory, he directed an offense that amassed 369 yards and scored on 3-of-3 trips into the Red Zone.

Justin Williams - Kentucky State         (So-QB/RB-Pompano Beach, FL)
In the Chicago Classic against Albany State, Williams came in as the back up quarterback for the Breds and rushed for 45 yards and completed 7-13 passes for 115 yards (long of 56 yards). In his first collegiate game as quarterback, Williams alone accounted for 160 of KSU's 207 total offensive yards and scored both of the Breds' touchdowns.

El' Malik Chinn – Tuskegee     (So-LB-Northport, AL)
Chinn, a sophomore, led the TU defense with eight total tackles (four solo and four assisted) along with a half-tackle for a loss of a yard in Tuskegee's 49-18 victory over Fort Valley State.

Corey Jones – Lane       (Sr-LB-Compton, CA)
The Conference's leading tackler had 10 total tackles (9 solo) and 3 TFL for 8-yard loss in loss to Stillman.

Tavarius Washington - Albany State                  (Fr-LB-Waynesboro, GA)
Washington led the ASU "Dirty Blue" with 8 tackles including 4 solo tackles.

Latavius Watts – Morehouse (Sr-DB-Columbus, GA)
Watts recorded 10 tackles (5-5), 1.5 tackles for loss and a pass breakup. He led a defense that held the opposition to 13 rushing yards.

Julius Charles – Lane  (Jr-LB-Chicago, IL)
Charles collected 9 total tackles, one QB sack for 7-yard loss, one Forced Fumble, and one Fumble recovery.

Dillian Fontaine - Albany State              (Fr-K-Deltona, FL)
Fontaine kicked a 37-yard field goal and was 2-for-2 on PATs to score 5 points for the Golden Rams in their victory over KSU. He also recorded 218 yards on 4 kicks, an average of 54.4 yards per kick.

Quendarius Hall – Morehouse               (Fr-RB-Decatur, GA)
Hall rushed for 52 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. He also made a tackle on Special Teams

Victor Moli - Albany State          (So-OL-North Augusta, SC)
Moli was a key anchor of the ASU "Gold Rush" offensive line that helped produce 322 yards of total offense, including 172 rushing yards, against KSU. Moli graded out at 91 percent.

Austin Casillas - Clark Atlanta                                   (Jr-K/P-Gilbert, Arizona)
Casillas punched in a career-high 51-yard field goal. He also recorded 197 punting yards on four punts and averaged 49 yards with his longest punt 58 yards including three inside the 20 and one touchback.

Dillian Fontaine - Albany State              (Fr-K-Deltona, FL)
Albany State kicked a 37-yard field goal and was 2-for-2 on PATs to score 5 points for the Golden Rams in their victory over KSU. He also recorded 218 yards on 4 kicks, an average of 54.4 yards per kick.

Eduardo Murillo – Tuskegee (Sr-K-Montgomery, AL)
Murillo converted five out of six extra points in Tuskegee's 49-18 victory over Fort Valley State.

Josh Owens - Kentucky State                  (Jr-P-St. Louis, MO)
Owens helped had six punts for 203 yards, averaging 33.8 yards per punt. Owens punted two balls inside the 20 and forced two fair catches, while not having any touchbacks against Albany State.

Thomas Williams – Morehouse             (Jr-Rtn Specialist-Knightdale, NC)
Thomas broke the Morehouse/Clark game open with a 95-yard return for a touchdown.
