Thorobreds Suffer Loss at Morehouse

ATLANTA, Ga. - Coming off an exciting victory against the Benedict Tigers, the Kentucky State Thorobreds traveled to Morehouse College to battle the Maroon Tigers, who sat in first place in the SIAC at 3-0 prior to the game against KSU. The Thorobreds second trip to Georgia in as many weeks was not as favorable as their first, as they suffered a 25-41 defeat to Morehouse.

KSU scored its first touchdown on a 1-yard run by Shannon Frieson to, but Morehouse scored early and often and went into the locker room with a 27-7 lead.

The Thorobreds kicked off to start the second half and Morehouse scored on a 10-play, 55-yard drive, making the score 7-34. KSU's defense held the Tigers scoreless for the remainder of the third period, as the 'Breds offense tried to gain momentum.

KSU struggled to find their rhythm on offense. At the end of the third quarter, KSU quarterback Jerrell Noland was sacked and fumbled the ball, which was recovered by Morehouse's Christopher Bailey at the KSU 40-yard line. On six plays, the Tigers scored again, putting them up 41-7 with 13:05 to play in the game.

The Thorobreds fought hard to stay in the game and the offense seemed to have gained momentum. Julian Brown scored with 7:32 to play, and after a quick three-and-out for Morehouse, KSU drove the ball 89 yards, capped off by a 38-yard touchdown run by Frieson, closing the gap to 19-41 with 2:49 to play in the game. The Thorobreds' defense held their ground on the next Morehouse possession and KSU got the ball back with 1:35 remaining. With :10 to play, Noland completed a 21-yard pass to Kenny Ball, bringing the score to 25-41. The two-point conversion pass was incomplete and MHC ran the clock out on the ensuing kickoff by Martez James.

Senior Derrick Addai led the KSU defense with 8 tackles (1 tackle for loss of one yard) and 2 quarterback hurries. DeAndre Mosley followed Addai's lead with 7 tackles, including 2 sacks for a combine loss of 22 yards, 4 tackles for loss of 38 yards, one forced fumble and one quarterback hurry.

Offensively, Jamaree Gordon led all KSU receivers with 7 catches for 80 yards. Noland completed 25-of-48 passes for 297 yards.

The 'Breds travel to Birmingham, Ala. to battle Miles College on September 25 at 6 p.m. (CST).
