Coach Bishop was assistant Head Football Coach under KSU Athletic Hall of Fame coach Leroy V. Smith. He also coached with Coach Smith at Tuskegee Institute. He also coached at his alma mater, Jackson State University and Alabama A&M University, Huntsville, Alabama.
